Castella is known for some of the best trout fishing in the U.S., and home to Castle Crags State Park. Just below the entrance to the park you will find Railroad Park Resort a fun place to visit even if you are not staying. The resort features old train cars as their rooms and restaurant. It also has beautiful views of Castle Crags. Did you know that Dunsmuir was originally named "Pusher"? The name was changed to Dunsmuir all because of a water fountain which now sits in the Dunsmuir City Park.

Lake Shasta

Shasta Lake is a destination for generations of vacationers. The sprawling beauty of her waters beckons Houseboaters, Water Skiers, Bass Anglers, Nature Lovers and Sun worshipers. Watercraft is available for rent at several local Marinas, such as Bridge Bay, Holiday Harbor, Silverthorn Resort , Sugarloaf Marina, Lakehead Resort and more.


McCloud is set at the base of Mt. Shasta and is known for its stunning beauty. This quaint little town is home to McCloud Golf Club, a fun and serene place to play 9 holes. Stop by Floyd`s Frosty for a Malt or Dipped Cone and chat with the locals. McCloud is steeped in history and a nice place to stroll around for the day popping into the eclectic, local shops. Take a Highway 89 right through McCloud to the East to McCloud Falls. The McCloud River and Falls are a favorite local picnic and hiking spot. You will find kids jumping off the huge rocks into pools of crystal clear water and fisherman casting their lines for a fresh catch.

Mt. Shasta

Mount Shasta is a magical place to be. The crisp air, the BEST water on earth directly from the headwaters spring of the Sacramento River, and the mountains surrounding her are awe inspiring. There are casual restaurants, such as The Wayside, The Goat Tavern, Andaman Healthy Thai, Mount Shasta Pastry, Casa Ramos and Mount Shasta`s very own food trailer on the main drag, Poncho & Lefkowitz


Redding is the largest town north of Sacramento. It is a playland for almost any outdoor activity. Beautiful Shasta and Whiskeytown lakes are a summer destination for boating, skiing, swimming and family fun. Turtle Bay Exploration Park is the perfect outting for kids and adults alike. After touring the interactive museum and gift shop, take a walk to the botanical gardens across the famous Sundial Bridge designed by Santiago Calatrava. The bridge was completed in 2004 at a cost of $23,500,000 and does no disappoint. The Bridge is also an entrance to the River Trail which provides miles of biking and walking trails along side the Sacramento River.
